Travelling to Croatia by plane? You'll probably land in Zadar or Split
Arriving in Dalmatia, if coming by plane, usually means that you will come either to Split airport or Zadar airport, as each city is one of the main flying destinations during tourist season in Croatia and is well connected with many flights from Europe. Besides traditional airlines, there are several low cost airliners that also connect these two Croatian towns with the rest of the world so getting there by plane is easy. They are also very popular tourist destinations as well so if you decide to spend your holiday in, for instance, Zadar, you can also plan on visiting Split, as the distance from these two towns is just 150 km. Zadar has great low cost flights so whether your destination for holidays is Split or somewhere in Zadar region, it is likely that you'll find yourself landing at Zadar airport, but transport from one place to the other shouldn't be an issue. As the two cities are well connected, it is not a problem to reach Split from Zadar and vice versa.
Both Zadar and Split are great places to visit. Not only do they offer numerous attractions and sites to visit and see, but there are also interesting excursions to go on (for instance, going to a national park such as Kornati or Plitvice lakes, just to name a few), beautiful nearby islands to visit and colourful local fiestas and festivals to enjoy. Rentals offer is getting better and richer each year so finding a suitable accommodation with affordable prices should be easy, from various apartments to hotels and hostels in both Zadar and Split.
Since Zadar and Split are so close, many people decide to book accommodation in one city and fly to the other, if the flight from their home destination is cheaper that way or arrive at one airport and departure from the other. In order to reach Split or Zadar from the airports one can take the usual route with a bus, but for the last couple of years more and more people are choosing taxi as a means of transportation as it offers the fastes and the most comfortable way of travelling. It is especially convenient when you need to reach your accommodation from the airport, as the driver will pick you up there so you needn't go to the bus station carrying all the luggage.
Reaching Split from Zadar can be done via regional coastal road that offers breathtaking views of the surroundings, but lasts longer so if you want shorter travel time, then taking the highway route which will get you to Split airport or the town itself in just an hour or so would certainly be a better choice. The same goes if you are travelling the other way round. There are a few bus lines that take that route, but bear in mind that you have to reach main bus station from the airport as the station is located in the centre of the town. Going by car means that if you rent one or choose a taxi service you can go directly from the airport to your destination and taking the route of your choice is certainly a more comfortable way to travel.
